Overview
Ensuring academic honesty has become more challenging with the rise of Chrome extensions, especially AI extensions. To address this, we now include a feature that blocks students from using the program if certain extensions are detected. Students will be required to disable these extensions before they can access Membean. This article explains how the feature works and how to enable it for your students.
What happens when extensions are detected?
When you enable this feature and a student tries to use Membean with one or more of the flagged extensions enabled, a notification will appear prompting them to disable the extension(s):
Until the flagged extension is turned off, all features on Membean will remain inaccessible. Disabling the extension and clicking OK, I've disabled this extension allows the student to proceed without any further interruption. For guidance on disabling extensions, students can click the How to Disable Extensions button.
Enabling Suspicious Chrome Extension Detection
The Detect suspicious Chrome extensions feature is located in your Teacher Preferences, and it will apply to all of your classes and students. Follow these simple steps to turn it on:
- Click Profile from the dropdown at your name
- Click the Preferences tab
- Check the box for the Detect suspicious Chrome extensions setting
- Save your changes
Once enabled, we will automatically detect certain Chrome extensions that could be used to cheat and students will be forced to disable them to use Membean.
Why You Should Enable This
This feature protects the integrity of Membean work and helps students remain actively engaged in their learning. By preventing the use of suspicious Chrome extension tools that can compromise the learning process, teachers can foster a fair and honest environment where students genuinely develop their vocabulary skills.
