Overview

Membean offers Google Single Sign On (SSO) by request. Google SSO provides increased account security and reduces the number of password resets teachers need to manage. This article will help you determine whether Google SSO is right for your school or district and provide the steps you need to follow to set up Google SSO for your school or district.

Because Google SSO impacts students and teachers school or districtwide, we require approval by a school or district administrator, Membean administrator, or technology coordinator.

Google SSO Domain Requirements

Google SSO requires your students and teachers to have school-provided Google logins. It works best when all students have a single Google email domain, since we can require them to link their Membean accounts to that domain. The same goes for teachers, though their domain can differ from that of the students.

We can only force one domain for students and one domain for teachers. If your student or teacher population has multiple domains and we enable Google SSO, they will be able to link their account to any Google email.

Schoolwide Versus Districtwide Google SSO

We can enable Google SSO at the school or district level. If multiple schools in your district use Membean and all the students within the district have the same domain, then we recommend enabling Google SSO at the district level. This setting will automatically enable Google SSO at all schools using Membean within your district.

If your school is not part of a district, or if schools within your district use different domains, then we can enable Google SSO at the school level. We can then set different domains for different schools within your district.

How to Set Up Google SSO

Setting up Google SSO will require the help of your school or district's Google Workspace Administrator.
  1. Approve Membean in the Google Admin Portal
  2. Reach out to support@membean.com with the following information:
    • Your school or district's student domain
    • Your school or district's teacher domain
    • Verification that Membean has been approved in the Google Admin Portal

Once we enable Google SSO for your school, students and teachers will link their accounts to Google and sign in using Google SSO.
