Overview

Each class has its own Training Report, a special report based on the training expectations you set when creating the class. You can customize this Training Report to include the data you want for grading and monitoring students. Your customized report will load every time you click on a class, making it easy to see how your students are doing. This article explains the different options for customizing your reports.

Customizing Your Training Report

Your Training Report includes our default columns. You can customize the data included by clicking the banner. If you'd like to stick with our default columns, click the X

Customizing your Training Report will open the Edit Training Report form. This is where you can select the columns and alerts that you find most helpful for monitoring and grading your students.

There are 4 sections to consider on the Edit Training Report form.

Section 1: Update Cycle & Expectation

The training cycle and expectation step serves as a reminder of the settings you chose upon creating the class. You can read more about this here. You may choose to keep what you initially selected upon creating the class, or you can update your training cycle and expectation from here. If you update the training cycle and expectation here, they will update for the class. The change is not restricted to just the Training Report.

Section 2: Data

Some training data may be more important to you than other training data. In the Columns section, Membean asks you to choose the information that is most important to you. Each option that you select within this step will appear as a column within the report. You have several options for the information you wish to view when selecting columns:

  • Accuracy: This column shows the average training accuracy of each student during the duration of the cycle. Learn more about how you can use accuracy to help your students here.
While a student's Membean grade shouldn't only reflect their training accuracy, some teachers create an accuracy threshold. For example, you may require your students to maintain at least a 70% training accuracy in order to receive credit for their training.
  • Minutes Trained: This column reflects how many minutes overall each student trained during the cycle period. Membean recommends that students train between 45-60 minutes per week.
  • Days Trained: This column shows how many days each student trained successfully (that is, met the expectation) during one cycle. Membean recommends that students train at least three days a week.
  • Skipped Words: This column shows how many new words a student has marked as I Know This during the cycle. Large numbers in this column indicate that a student is misusing the IKT button. You can disable the IKT button for individual students or multiple students at once.
  • Dubious Minutes: This column highlights training sessions during which students are inactive or unengaged. You can learn more about Dubious Minutes here. This column is crucial for giving you information on the quality of your students' training.
  • New Words: This column shows how many words have been newly introduced to each student during a training cycle. You may notice that students who are newer to Membean are receiving more new words than students who have been training for a while—seasoned Membean users spend most of their time reviewing words they've already encountered so they don't forget them. You can learn more about new words during training here.
  • Missed Questions: This column shows how many questions each student answered incorrectly during training.
  • Correct Questions: This column shows how many questions each student answered correctly during training. You can gauge each student's training pace by analyzing the Missed Questions and Correct Questions columns.
  • Assessments: This column shows the assessment score for each student. If more than one assessment was issued, the column will show the average and list the number of assessments given.

Step 3: Alerts

Your report has an Alerts column to notify you when suboptimal training has occurred.

You can customize your report to include only what you wish to be alerted to, but we recommend sticking with the defaults:

  • IKT Use: The student skips too many words within a session using the I Know This button. You can disable IKT for them if needed.
  • Length: the student trains for less than five minutes or more than sixty minutes at a time. Sessions that are too long or short may negatively affect long-term retention of vocabulary.
  • Pace: The student is spending a median of fewer than ten seconds reviewing word pages when they get questions incorrect.
  • Accuracy: The student's accuracy is below 50%. If accuracy is below 30%, the session will also be marked Dubious. You can learn more about using accuracy to help your students here.
  • Inactivity: the student is inactive three or more times within a session.

Step 4: Apply to Classes

You may choose to apply your report settings to all of your classes at once, saving you time and several clicks. However, you may decide that while some information and alerts are important to monitor in some classes, they may not be as important to monitor in other classes.

For example, you may decide that you want to monitor Skipped Words in your regular English class, but want to give your AP English students the option to liberally use the I Know This button. You may also decide to require your AP class to complete 60 minutes of training a week, versus the 45 minutes you assign your regular English class.
